A measly 5

I did a measly 5km on the exercise bike today. I could’ve done more but the seat on my sister’s bike is really uncomfortable :(
Plus I started to get a headache and stuff. I must be sooo unfit, I used to ride 3 miles a day no problems when I was at school.
But hopefully that will change. I plan to go for 10km tomorrow and then an extra 5 the day after. If I have free time right now I might as well use it. Even if it means causing a headache etc. It’s not because I get dehydrated, I just… idk it can’t be that because I drink lots :P

I figure, I need new jeans, and it’s March… Beach weather is June-mid August ;)

Still no news from the jobs I applied for. That’s pretty rude. At least send me a rejection letter, don’t ignore me ._.
This afternoon I’m going to do something I’ve not done in a while: take the dog to the forest and take pictures. The weather is lovely and…I just feel like it :)

Its the seats on exercise bikes that put me off too! I started going to the gym about a month back and my pro gramme included the bike but i just couldn’t go on it got more than 5 minutes. Now I use the low bike but its almost worse as you kinda slip off the seat… Give me the treadmill any day :D

That’s crap about the jobs :( Have you tried calling any of the places to make sure they got your apps?

I’d prefer a treadmill too. When it’s warmer and lighter I can just drive over to the forest and go running there.
My Mum says its something to do with wide hips or something, idk… it’s just wicked uncomfortable to sit on a bike seat. I used to be able to when I was 15! Grr!

If I hear nothing by tomorrow I’ll at least phone up ‘Rubicon Staffing’ with the advert number and see whether they got my app :)

I understand it must be frustrating you can only do 5KM if you used to do 4.83KM with ease, but thats only natural if you haven’t done much riding for a while. The headache can be caused by the riding exercise even if you get lots of fluids.

Having done the whole working on my condition and shape thing, I think planning to do 10KM tomorrow and 15KM the day after that is a verry good goal, but you should keep in mind that it is also the goal of an optimist. If you can’t do 10 tomorrow, don’t worry about it, just try again the day after. And try not to go “all the way” either - it will just mean you can do much less the next day and the day after that. Puching your limits is good, trying to ignore them isn’t.

Checking up on your job application is a good thing, it shows you are serious about it and that you want to be on top of things, meaning you will probally do you best if they give you the job. 4 days don’t seem to be that long though, over here I think a week is the standard response time. (But then again, maybe you Brits are more efficient with these kind of things. ;) )

I find the idea of running or cycling in a gym totally soul-destroying! When I worked last year, I joined the company gym (£30 for the year - bargainous!) and used it probably a total of 7 times… but anyway, I used the running machine a couple of times when training for a running event I had coming up, and had used the cycling machine as a warm up but both of them are so horrible to use.

One thing I love about running is just looking around and seeing what is going on, having the fresh air in your face and the varied intensity that you get when running outdoors. Inside a gym you have a TV invariably tuned to Sky News and barely any mental stimulation.

Although I do understand why people don’t run/cycle outdoors, and if people can do it indoors without choosing to smother themselves with their gym towel to escape the monotony, then more power to them!

You can’t beat running in an absolute downpour though - so, so, so, so much fun!

Running in the forest would be awesome. Quite often there would be no one around for miles… just the ponies and the cows. There is this really long stretch of road nearby which has some traffic but not lots. I think my issue is that I’m a bit self conscious so I don’t want to be seen by too many people..even by people who don’t know me… drowning in sweat at the side of the road XD

I’ve always found that if there are people around then it spurs me on to run faster and harder. First of all because it makes me look better, and secondly because it gets me away from them quicker!

We have a track team at our school, and one of the guys there is somebody who you look up after gaining your breath for a second and wish that he would fall down. Not because he’s obnoxious or anything but because he can run. I mean run forever. You could put a golf cart with a full tank of gas behind him and the cart would stop before he would. He’s not fast but he can run forever.

That said, he said that if you’re running, don’t stop running. If you have to, walk but walk backwards. Since walking doesn’t help you walking backward does a bit. But whatever you do, he said, don’t stop. Keep doing something.

We still wish he would trip though. :P

    Jacroe…you’re so lovely aren’t you :P

I know what he means. I used to be good at sports in school. Once you build up momentum it’s easy to keep running and running, provided the slope doesn’t change much. I’ve had issues with asthma in the past so when I do try running it’ll be interesting.
I’m trying to get my friend to go with me, she wants to get in shape too.

Exercise bike kinda feels like the easiest… most painful and laziest way to do exercise :p I agree with Rory, surroundings would be more interesting. Living in a national park, I’d put money on that too :P
