I thought Fashion was for ALL?

I was fuming earlier because I was looking through a clothes catalogue to find that while it did a ‘Petite’ section for tiny people, they had no tall section.

I’m on a hunt for a new pair of jeans, because my only pair (yes I have ONE pair of trousers) are getting a bit old, and they’ve also shrunk so they’re not as long as they should be. I did actually buy them a bit shorter than I needed, so they kinda now look crappy. I want to be able to wear heels with jeans like everyone else gets to, so I need them longer than a measly 34in inside leg.

Firstly, I saw the ‘Trinny and Susannah’ shape guide in the womens section of the catalogue. Apparently 99% of women fit into one of the 9 body shape types. I was none of them… I think the closest lacked my wide shoulders. Bleh. I am a Nicola.
Then I found Dorothy Perkin’s online store, and they had some jeans for tall people. Annoying, they only had the current fashion items. I.e stupidly skinny jeans for anorexics with twigs with legs, or ridiculously wide jeans with Simon Cowell-type high waistbands. I want low rise fitted jeans with some flare in a 36″ inside leg…apparently that is a tall order.

Now I remember why I used to wear a lot of skirts. Sadly this has ended since I wore a lot when I was 2″ shorter… and now they only seem to stock mini skirts which chavs wear with leggings underneath. Urgh. I might have to hunt round for knee length skirts.

Shops are evil, basically.. and fashion definitely does not cater for everyone. What if you don’t want to adhere to trends? What if you’re happy with your jeans and a plain t-shirt with a pair of comfy shoes? What if you’re abnormal eh? :P

Places really do need to realise that girls/women CAN be taller than 5ft5… some DO eat healthily and don’t starve themselves… some do have bad genetics and can’t fit into skimpy outfits. Places need to cater for the real women. I’d be perfectly happy being 5ft10″ ish if I were able to wear clothes I liked. I might even embrace it :) But until then I am someone wearing clothes which are too short, and it sucks. It’s not just trousers/jeans either, it’s tops too. It takes me ages to find a top which actually covers my midriff. Grr.

Shops r sucketh. Us tall people should converge on them like giants >=D

Did some more of Neve.

FINALLY!!! somebody in the world hates the skinny jeans and the leggings with the skirts! i thought i was alone! :) im sorry stores are evil 2 you. i don’t have the tall problem…i have the short problem standing at 5′2″. I’m not skinny what so ever, but i’m not obese. It’s like they’re saying if you’re really tall or really short you should be perfectly(cough*anorexic*cough) skinny in order to meet the “fashion” today. I say we go on strike with all the writers! Lol No more skinny jeans! Give us OUR size!
