I had my hair-dyed yesterday, and it was ruined.
Before I explain things, if anyone lives in Southampton: this was Trevor Mitchell.

I wanted to go from being brown to blonde. I didn’t want it trashy looking so we agreed on ash blonde. One side looks okay, the other is an utter disaster.
It was like she got bored, couldn’t be bothered and gave up halfway through. I even queried her on why one side of my hair had more ‘foil’ (the hair is put into foil sections with the product to dye the hair inside), and I basically had to trust her.
After it was all taken out and washed, she dried it, and said that the fringe was too ‘golden’, so put more product on. Didn’t really help that much, and she didn’t wash it off well either. It was still clogged in the roots of my hair when I left.
I said that the right side of my head looked a lot darker than the other, and she said it was because she’d brushed it all forwards. Liar.

See for yourself.
The fringe looks awful, and brassy coloured. The hair barely looks any lighter than it was originally. I am thoroughly disappointed with it, and it cost a stupid amount of money: £86.
It’s “96 for a FULL hair colour on LONG hair. My hair isn’t long. It’s just below the shoulder. Some might call it SEMI LONG like on their prices. You take £11 off if you’re not getting it cut too, I didn’t get it cut. That brings my amount to MORE than it would be for long hair without a cut. Ridiculous.

I am so sick of getting my hair ruined by the stupid little pixie teenagers hairdressing salons employ. I want someone with experience, and not someone with the IQ of a lettuce staring vacantly into space through her mascara crusted eyelashes while thinking about getting ‘omg illegally wasted’ at a park because she’s only 17 and not old enough to drink.
Yeah, I seem to stereotype people sometimes, but god these people make it so damn easy.

I’ve never liked having my hair cut (only get it done once or twice a year ), and have always dyed my hair myself. After this pathetic experience, that isn’t going to change.

I would’ve made a fuss about it then and there, but I’d rather go back on Monday (Which I am going to do) than face a parking ticket since my parking was already 10 minutes over than the 3 hours I paid for.
So on Monday, I am demanding a fix, or a full refund.

I was watching a report on the TV during lunch today, where they were showing the behaviour of some drivers along a stretch of road within a day.
It was a speed camera operated by a person inside a clearly marked van, and they were noting down the people breaking the speed limit etc. They showed a few videos:
- One man was putting a jumper on while doing around 80mph in his car
- Another in a large estate car put his brakes on so hard after noticing the parked van that he crashed into the barrier and nearly caused an accident with three other cars. No doubt the car was a complete write off, and I bet he was still fined after being caught by the speed camera in the van.
- Another car also brakes from doing 126mph down to around 100mph.

It got me thinking while I was driving back from a few errands how in actuality, car manufacturers and such don’t do much to stamp down on speeding. My Corsa which grumbles at me when I do 70mph, apparently can do up to 140mph. … Since when does a car need to go that fast? By law, you can’t do more than 70mph on the motorway…. so why have cars that can do twice that speed? What is the point?
With all the technological advances within the past decade, why not invent some sort of device that limits the speed someone can do on a certain road? We have GPS, people can figure out which road you’re on if you’ve broken down, so why not use it so tell a car not to go above a certain speed limit? All new cars could be fitted with something, and despite criminals probably removing such devices, it might actually help. With all the new technology these days, the government etc aren’t doing nearly as much as they could be doing in order to stop people speeding so much.

Read that and peek into the dirty minds of my friends

Mike Oxmall ended up being the name of our team at the pub quiz today… WHERE WE WON! We won nothing, no prize… but that’s the first time any of us have won it, so we were pretty jubilant.
The questions weren’t that easy either. History was a big chunk, and one of them took history at A Level.

The team that came second got 2 points lower than us… a lot of the teams got under 20, and we got 29.
There was a big hoo-hah about one of them. A question in the science section was the letters in the periodic table for Sodium. The idiot who did the quiz put down ‘N’… which is Nitrogen. They kept saying “Well it says N on the sheet…” so when they got all the marked sheets in they looked it up, and then added the extra points to those who were correct. I had gone to the loo during that question, and the guys had put down ‘So’… Pfft. But we got it right in the end ^_^

Did you know the mollusk can direct itself via magnetism? I didn’t.

They do a raffle there during the picture round where the prizes are always various meats from a local farm. The top prize being a large beef joint. I actually won something today! I had a choice between burgers, meatballs, sausages or two lamb chops. I took the chops

I had sooo much fun ^__^
The following was rather amusing (to us)

Tom: “You have no job”
Me: “Well..your sideburns are ginger”
Tom: “I earn money”
Me:”Well I have breasts!!”
Mike: “Yeah, so does Tom”

XD Poor Tom. Apparently I was being horrible to him all night. How is reaching across the table and poking him in the tummy being horrible eh? We were talking about training him up for next years marathon! Poor Tom with his doughy tummy and bewbs.

Thankfully once again, not from me Not that I had any doubt… except I do sit there thinking “It would be seriously weird if the nurse came out and said ‘Sorry, but you’re pregnant.’”… even though I obviously know better
I got the 50% increase of my Roaccutane today, after the awkward pregnancy test and grilling from the nurse about my symptoms.
Upon getting the new meds, I read the leaflet again while my Mum went into a shop. It made some sense of some bad back/neck/shoulder pains I’ve been having lately. It’s very common to get muscle and joint pain while on the medication. Lately every time I’ve laid down in bed my lower back has hurt quite a bit. It’s kinda hard to breathe when it does, and it’s generally getting a bit of a nuisance. While walking the dog yesterday it was hurting too.
Of course it’s worth it if it banishes my acne forever. Due to the wonder that is female hormones my complexion has been a bit crap this week, so I don’t really want to go outside

Anyway, the pitter patter of tiny feet will be coming from my cousin Liz I found out that she’s due in October today. Yayy for Liz!

I was watching bits and pieces of the London Marathon yesterday, and I’ve decided that I would very much like to attempt it one day in the future. Obviously not next year, I’d have to get in serious shape before putting in for it, but I definitely think it’d be something to feel proud of if I took part. My friend Tom wants to do it too

Last night I went to the pub down the road again with my friends (my best friend and her boyfriend came with us this time, and some perv who I don’t like) and…we came joint last. Despite having three more people than we did last week. Although I suppose some of Dan’s answers were wrong, so we can blame him
We were kinda trying to beat some of my old work mates (who Tom, Steve and Dan still work with) and they came and sat at the table next to us. There were three of them, and they beat us by 5 points… which ironically is the amount of points they managed to get via the silly ‘picture round’ which was 10 pictures of air steward uniforms… guess the airline. We kinda guessed on them all, had no idea whether we got any right!

Unfortunately we were meant to drive there at first, but then I ended up walking with my friend and her boyfriend, just before a thunderstorm came. Was then meant to be driven back after, but the pervy guy wanted a McDonalds… so I had to walk home with Tom and Steve. Had I known I’d have to walk I’d have worn better footwear. As a consequence, I have sore toes, but at least I was pretty tired when I got in.

The weather didn’t allow me to walk my dog and get my exercise over the weekend, so I’ll have to try extra hard this week.
Have to go back to the hospital to get my next prescription of Roaccutane on wednesday, I cannot wait to pee in a cup! Hopefully they’ve received my blood test results (had the blood test on thursday and thankfully they got ze blood on the first go) so there won’t be a problem getting those.
Side effects are in full swing, my skin is sooo dry. BUT my hair has been so glossy lately, which must be because I’ve not had to wash it quite so much. I still need to get it cut, though… and dyed. I have light roots which looks a little odd.

Still waiting for the email back from that job application

… to see 27 Dresses.

I kid, I cannot come up with 27 reasons.
I saw the film this evening and even though it’s another generic feel-good (supposedly) chick flick which is completely predictable in every way, it was still a great film, and I had a good time.
It was funny, it was cute, and the cheese was on a well balanced level.
Katherine Heigl did a great job with her character. I saw her in ‘Knocked Up’ and thought she was pretty good in that too. I will however, always see her as Isabelle from Roswell (of which I have a boxset of.. where she plans her wedding with military accuracy like in 27 Dresses ).

The worst thing about the film: James Marsden’s hair! The guy is really cute… but his hair was so bad in the movie. I can’t help but make a remark on it
The best thing was… how I now feel that I could perhaps go to 27 weddings and not feel like I’m going to be a spinster forever. Yeah..I’m only 20, but I’m realistic, and I’m not stupid either

I would definitely recommend the film to all my female friends =) (and any males who secretly can’t wait to fall in love and get married).

However, at the end of the film I asked my friend whether she’d thought about her dream wedding, considering she’s been engaged once already and has been with her current boyfriend for over a year now… they have picked out kids names so I won’t be at all surprised if he proposes.
She said she’s known what dress she’s wanted since she was a little girl, and she wants her Bridesmaids dresses to be maroon, and she wants a small church wedding with family and a few friends.. although in the 14 years that I’ve known her, I never thought she was religious, so why a church?

She’s not the only one either. Several of my friends have been thinking about their wedding day for a long time. I see on TV shows about how they’ve been planning their dream wedding since they were 12 and what not… and despite my cousin getting married in under 2 months, I can’t help but note to myself how I have never, not once, thought about it. At all. Has never even crossed my mind. I can’t physically think about it. It makes me feel odd compared to everyone else, and completely empty. Or maybe I don’t view the prospect of weddings like other people do. I’ve never understood the whole planning while you’re younger thing, or making sure everything is perfect. The perfect cake, the perfect flowers, the perfect dress, perfect bridesmaids… I guess I think a wedding should be more about the prospect of the marriage rather than the day itself. A party would be fun for sure, but it seems so distant and fake compared to what it actually represents.

I shall stop here before I ramble further

Today I was woken up before my alarm (grumble!) because it was snowing. It’s a big deal around here. If it snows, it’s usually after a fortnight of heavy rain and gales. It snows once a year…or once every two years, and it..just never lays.
This morning it laid. However, two hours later, it was completely gone. Might have something to do with the heavy rain yesterday, or the extremely sodden water table.

At least my camera was by my window to capture the magic(!). One of my neighbours was outside with his 4(?) year old son making a snowman. That is still there, slowly melting:

How cute. They gave it hair!

And a random one I snapped of our garden while I stretched and yawned:

That large patch of melted snow would be where my dog Poppy rolled around and got soaking wet and cold. She now looks like a puffball and her hair is all crimpy.

In other news:
Side effects of my tablets are getting nutty. I am soo dried out! My hair has not required washing for 4 days. I usually have to wash it every day. I also ripped my gum on my lip about half an hour ago, and it’s not looking good
Not to mention the extremely dry skin on the face. This had all better be worth it *goes off to drink more liquids*

I must first comment on the new wordpress dashboard…it’s rather…different. I can switch back to then old version if I want, but I’ll give this a shot first

I received a rejection letter from the photography related job I had applied for about 3/4 weeks ago, which I had the interview for a week ago today. I have mixed feelings. I’m not cut up about it, but I can’t help but start to feel frustrated a little.
This is also good I guess, I don’t have to pay toll charges on a daily basis, which I would have had to do if I’d got the job.

I did however apply for two jobs at the main hospital in town. UK’ers would recognise it as being the hospital featured in the BBC program ‘City Hospital’ (at least I think it was called that!) It’s huge, and I think it’d be a pretty interesting and diverse place to work in. Not to mention rewarding.
Both positions appear to be an assistant job in the Radiology department. I have experience with that from the patient perspective, having had MRI and X-ray scans before. I have been mildly considering becoming a Paramedic (when I am eligible) for some time now. To be honest I’d really like a job with some sort of meaning to it.

My new exercise regime seems to be going okay so far. I’ve been walking the dog for 30-40 minutes each day, and have been doing some muscle toning exercises in the mornings and evenings. I do wish my Mum was more supportive of my determination. Hearing comments such as “you’ll never be slim” doesn’t really help.

Like Will Smith says in ‘Pursuit of Happyness’ (great film btw): “If you want something, go get it. Period.”
My Mum and my sister can carry on grumbling about their weight, but I’d rather take the proactive approach.
Oh and apparently I can’t wear a white dress to my cousin’s wedding? Why not? Hehe.

Today was one of our occasional visits to the midlands to visit my Aunt and Grandparents. This means a lovely 3 hour drive (sometimes its 4 when there is holiday traffic) and I hate long drives.
We went in ‘our’ new Volvo, which is actually a large estate car my Dad has on lease due to the maintainence costs of his previous car. It’s pretty nifty, it tells you if the seatbelts are on or if the doors aren’t shut properly etc. I had fun un-clicking my seatbelt during the trip to make a mini alarm sound on the dashboard. Of course, they still haven’t perfected giving an ample amount of leg room, thus I have had creaky knees today. My sister has no right to complain that she can’t stretch out, she’s half a foot shorter than I am…but she will anyway.

My Aunt Jenny is my dad’s sister, and her husband is called Francis, and he’s a marathon runner by April, Geography teacher by…past… he’s now retired. They spend most of their time on holiday somewhere, mostly Antigua. They have 5 daughters, all of them are blonde and look alike. The eldest is 30, while the youngest is 2 days younger than my sister. I am still the ‘baby’ of the family
My Grandparents are my Dad’s parents, and my Grandma is very traditional and …kinda old fashioned in her views. My Granddad is deaf and was in the Navy during the war…a ‘Leftenant Commander’ according to my birthday cheques
I don’t get to see them much.

Not really quite sure why we went there today, considering we’ll be back there on May 31st for my cousin’s wedding. My Aunt has been making the dresses for it, and so far the wedding dress is stunning. It’s seriously beautiful, and my cousin has been decorating it herself. Can’t wait to see it when it’s finished
She’s having it at a local church, and the reception in the back garden of my Aunt & Uncle’s home. They had a huge garden as it was, but a few years ago they purchased the plot next to the house, so now the garden is even bigger and there is a large pond at the end of it too. It’s probably about an acre? I have no idea. It’s large and my Mum is clearly jealous, so that is that. Got lots of fun memories with us playing hide and seek in the field behind their house, where corn grew during the summer. The views behind the house is fantastic. Today was a really gorgeous day so it looked lovely, and it was toasty in the conservatory.
So it’s not a stretch to see a marquee be put up and having 70 or so people that are apparently coming all milling around. Her older sister had her second wedding there too recently, but there was a smaller amount of guests. I can’t remember what she did for her first wedding, it was a looong time ago. I much prefer her current husband to her previous. These days it’s partly because they’d have to add a terrorist to their extended family tree

So…today they talked about nothing but the wedding… and my Grandma spent her time implying my eldest cousin shunned men and kept saying “5 more to go!”… yayy for grandparents pressuring the idea of marriage. Thankfully since I am the youngest, it’s not as ‘bad’ for me to still be unwed at the grand age of 20. It was kinda funny when she turned to my cousin and said “You want all this don’t you Isobel?” and she looked startled and said “…Yes…” and my Aunt walks in and says “Oh Isobel doesn’t like all this wedding stuff do you Isobel?”

Then of course they were picking my eldest cousin Emma’s new boyfriend to pieces. He’s apparently loaded, and they’re going skiing with his parents soon. He was married once before, and she was apparently a gold digger. They met on an internet dating site.

I was kinda glad I didn’t get the uncomfortable questioning thing. It might be because I was curled up grumbling from cramps *coughs*. Perhaps they felt sorry for me

Either way, I need to ..find something for this wedding. Last wedding I wore a trouser suit, and I hated it. I felt like an idiot. I’d really love to wear a pretty dress. But to avoid looking like a dangerous cupcake, I’m going to try really hard over the next 8 weeks to shift some of my excess squidge so I can buy a nice dress and feel feminine for once. I’m also thinking I’ll probably get my hard cut and coloured. I miss being blonde… and having dyed my hair brown I got “Oh don’t they look alike?” from my Aunt and Grandma. I look nothing like my sister. At all. I’m blonde, she’s brunette. I’m tall she’s short. I think we scowl the same way but that’s about it.

Joke of the day: My cousin Rachael asked me if I wanted wine, and I declined, and my Grandma said “As long as it’s because you don’t like it rather than beliefs. I had a friend who refused to touch alcohol because she said it was against her religion. I had said to her ‘Jesus turned water into wine’ and she replied ‘it was non-alcoholic’”.
Yes, because in those days, they had the ability to remove alcohol from drinks

*smiles at the thought of wearing a pretty dress *
No more chocolate, bacon or crisps for moi. I didn’t eat much of it anyways, but still. I’m thinking daily walks with the dog and some running, in addition to my usual stomach crunches and stuff. But not tonight, I feel achey and generally rather crummy.

Entry Edit:
I just realised I never explained the title. Apparently we were guinea pigs today for some things that might be served at the wedding reception. Salmon mousse in smoked salmon = delicious but very rich. Only had one ‘cake’ of it.
Hor’dourves sound posh for what they are. But they were yummy too.

Don’t like beetroot, though.

Kinda nervous since I still don’t have anything perfect to wear for an interview, but I am confident in that I can safely say I can do what their advert required. I have an A Level in Photography and can even do dark room processing…. plus they wanted someone with website skills

Yayy. Wish me luck
